Vanilla extracts are widely available in plastic as well as glass bottles. But which is good and why should we go for it? When we buy Vanilla extract, we should have some awareness about the bottles. Let's understand in the below questionnaire.
Why we should not use plastic?
There are three primary issues we should not use plastic and we should use glass bottles.
1 Permeability
2 Leaching
3 Environmental
Permeability
Fine mixtures are always bottled in glass rather than plastic bottles. Glass is less permeable than plastic. That means Oxygen and Carbon dioxide will permeate a plastic container more easily than a glass container. Plastic is used for mixtures that will be eaten right away, whereas glass is used for mixtures that will be stored and last for a long time
Leaching
This is a crucial factor when it comes to taste. Ethylene glycol and terephthalic acid are two chemical compounds found in plastic. If one of these substances is used to store any type of alcohol for an extended period of time, they are more likely to leach. Those chemicals can actually seep into the drink as the temperature rises. The chemicals are not only harmful, but they will also change the flavor of vanilla extract. Because of their solid surface, glass bottle has great resistance to Leaching. Bottles go through a DE alkalization process that creates a smooth, airtight atmosphere.
Environmental
The fact that quality of plastic and the effort to make them more “green” improve year after year, glass is still considered more environmentally friendly. The main reason is that glass can be recycled to make new glass. It can be used over and over again without losing its integrity. Plastic, on the other hand, cannot be recycled. All plastic is new plastic that can be “down cycled” into the carpet, pads, and plastic timber.
Conclusion
We believe that glass is the best choice for both environmental and product quality reasons. We recommend using glass bottles while preparing the extract.
